NitroGPT user guide
What NitroGPT does
Long ChatGPT conversations are hard to move around — the answer you need is buried somewhere in the thread. NitroGPT gives you a message slider to jump straight to any message (yours or ChatGPT's), and search (Pro) that finds text anywhere in the conversation, including ChatGPT's replies, and takes you to the exact message.
It also keeps long chats light: NitroGPT renders only your most recent messages and trims older ones before your browser draws them, so the page stays responsive — handy on older machines.
Nothing is deleted. Your full conversation always stays safe in your ChatGPT account. NitroGPT just shows fewer messages at a time, and you can bring the older ones back on screen whenever you want. NitroGPT does not change ChatGPT's answers or its response speed — only how much your browser has to draw.
Quick start
- Install NitroGPT from the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons.
- Pin the icon (optional): click the puzzle-piece icon in your browser toolbar and pin NitroGPT so its popup is one click away.
- Open ChatGPT at chatgpt.com. NitroGPT starts working automatically — there's nothing to turn on.
- Open a long chat. Only your most recent messages render, and a banner appears at the top showing how many older messages are tucked away.
Your 7-day Pro trial starts automatically on install — no sign-up or payment required.

Click the NitroGPT icon in your toolbar to open the popup. There are three settings, plus your license.
Enabled
The master switch. When it's on, NitroGPT keeps long chats light. Turn it off and ChatGPT renders the whole conversation normally, with nothing trimmed.
Visible messages
How many of your most recent messages stay on screen. On Free this is fixed at 80. Pro unlocks the window size so you can choose anywhere from 80 to 200 — fewer for a lighter page, more for extra context on screen at once.
Quiet Mode
Hides NitroGPT's small on-screen notifications. NitroGPT keeps working in the background — you just won't see any pop-up messages.
License
At the bottom of the popup you can activate NitroGPT Pro with your purchase email and license key, or deactivate the current browser to free up an installation.
Bringing back older messages
When older messages are tucked away, a banner appears at the top of the conversation telling you how many are hidden. You have two options:
- Load previous — brings back the next chunk of older messages.
- Load all — shows the entire conversation again, with nothing trimmed.
Because your full chat always lives in your ChatGPT account, you can do this as often as you like. Nothing is ever lost.
Finding and jumping to messages
NitroGPT adds a message slider at the right edge of your chat — a list of every message in the conversation, both your prompts and ChatGPT's replies. Click any entry to jump straight to that message, even hundreds of messages back, with no endless scrolling and no page reload.
Opening and closing the slider:
- Hover over the tab on the right edge and the slider opens.
- Click the tab to lock the slider open, so it stays put while you work.
- If it isn't locked, moving your mouse away from the slider lets it close on its own.
- When it's locked open, click the tab again to let it close automatically — or just click anywhere in the chat and it closes on its own.
Search (Pro): at the top of the slider, Pro users get a search box that looks through the whole conversation — including ChatGPT's answers, not just your prompts — and lets you jump to any match. On the Free plan the search box shows a quick link to upgrade.
Free vs Pro
Free keeps 80 recent messages on screen, includes the message slider (jump to any message), and optimizes up to 30 prompts per day after your trial ends. Pro adds full-conversation search (including ChatGPT's replies), the 80–200 visible-messages window, Quiet Mode, unlimited optimized prompts, and license management across up to 3 browsers.

Your privacy
NitroGPT does the trimming entirely inside your browser. Your ChatGPT prompts and responses are never sent to or stored on NitroGPT servers. The only time NitroGPT contacts a server is to start your trial, validate your license, or check your daily free-prompt count. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Troubleshooting
- Don't see a change after adjusting a setting? Reload the ChatGPT tab (F5 or Ctrl+R) so NitroGPT re-reads it.
- NitroGPT seems inactive? Make sure it's enabled on your browser's extensions page, and that you're on a supported browser (Chrome, Firefox, or a supported Chromium browser like Edge or Brave).
- License won't activate? Double-check that your email and license key match your order confirmation exactly, with no extra spaces.
- Still stuck? Open a support ticket and we'll help.
